The Tucson Steampunk Society enjoys celebrating the holidays in steamupnk style and of corse this means having a tea party. The Dickens’ Tea is Tucson Steampunk Society’s annual winter celebration. Local Steampunks join together to celebrate the holiday season with a variety of tea, snacks, and live entertainment. The Dickens Tea is inspired by Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol." This event is family friendly and we always have a grand time.
Food & Drink:
Like past years, there will be an assortment of goodies from sandwiches to fudge and cider to signature teas! (Only some items may be gluten free and vegan).
Table Decorating Contest:
You may enter as a single entry or a paired entry. You will get one table to decorate as you see fit and will be providing a tea service to your table. All you will need to do is keep the tea fresh at your table by getting more hot water or changing the tea flavors if requested.
Decorations do not have to be Holiday themed, but they do need to be family friendly and allow room for guests to eat and drink at the table. You can use the place settings we will provide or bring your own to fit your theme just as long as they are food and drink safe if they are not for solely for decoration. Tables will be voted on by other guests. There will be a prize for the single entry and the paired entry!
Costume Contest:
The three categories are Dickens (all ages), Steampunk (all ages), and Children (12 and under).
You may enter more than one category, but can only win once! There will be one winner per category as chosen by a panel of 3 judges who will be judging on aspects such as overall creativity and closeness to theme. Contestants will each get a moment on stage to show off their outfit. It is not necessary to "perform" or say anything if you do not want to.
Silent Auction:
Many wonderful items donated by members will be up for grabs in out silent auction! Proceeds go towards funding this and future events.
Live Entertainment: For the first time the Borderline Celts will be performing a selection of Celtic music for our enjoyment. They consist of six or seven, and sometimes twelve, musicians make up their group, which includes, fiddles and bodhrans and mandolin and guitar, some banjos and the Irish whistle, for certain! Also performing are Tucson favorites, Lykiska, with their special blend of tribal and cabaret belly dance. Lykiska dance members entrance audiences at a wide variety of Tucson events but they are especially beloved by Tucson’s Geek and Steampunk communities.
Professional Victorian Photo sessions: This year there will be the option of participating in a professional photo session with Brandan Lee of Radian-Helix Media. We have been very busy getting the backdrop ready and acquiring set items for those that want to have a professional quality photo in their beautiful Tea Party or Costume Contest outfit within a Victorian themed set. $10 a sitting for a digital download of a finished image.
