Introduction to Hat Making

Please join Temperance and Madame Askew for their introduction to hat making class.

During this class, we will start by making either a pillbox or fez. These shapes are the basis for many hat crowns as well as being delightful hats on their own merits!

For the class you must be at minimum an experienced beginner sewist. You will be responsible for all of your own supplies as listed below. There is no cost to attend this workshop, but no supplies will be provided.
Materials:
-sewing shears
-small pliers and wire cutters
-pencil
-fabric clips (wonder clips) or t-pins
-thimble
-sharp hand sewing needles
-sharp curved hand sewing needles
-white thread
-thread that coordinates with your fabric
-beeswax or other thread conditioner
-one yard of heavy duty buckram (if you cannot acquire buckram in time for the workshop, you may substitute 1 yard of peltex/timtex or 1 yard of plastic embroidery canvas)
-2 yards of milinery wire or floral wire
-1 yard of fabric (do not bring slick, slippery, thin or challenging fabric)
-a package of white or cream extra wide double fold bias tape
